case study | B & D Doors
December 1999 to June 2004

The Business

B&D Doors is the leading manufacturer of garage doors and openers in Australia and New Zealand, with a market share exceeding 50 percent.

Value Creation

  • Catalyst sourced a highly experienced management team to lead an industry consolidation strategy.

  • The development of deep sector knowledge ensured attractive acquisition opportunities were identified and Catalyst led two follow on acquisitions with support from management.

  • Market share and margins were enhanced by improvements in B&D’s service proposition and customer relationships as well as significant investment in the B&D brand.

  • Cost savings were achieved in the existing B&D business as the head office function was moved to Queensland and manufacturing efficiencies were realised.
Results

  • The business performed well during Catalyst’s tenure with earnings improvements driven by operational initiatives and a realisation of synergies from the successful integration of follow-on acquisitions.

  • Catalyst executed a dual track exit process which culminated in the sale of the business to a trade buyer, Alesco, in 2004.
